I installed a cooler temp thermostat and purchased a Hypertech Power Programmer to reset the stock fan temps...now my car never gets above 220 even in Houston traffic.
I am in Pa, in the sumer with stop and go traffic my car was getting near 230-240, way too scary for me. Steve, what temp thermostat did you install?
Thanks, Gene
What year is your car? I'm wondering because I have HP Tuners and could do it for you in a matter of minutes. If your car is a 2002 it wouldn't cost you anything. It would also depend on which side of PA you live on.

I bought a 180 degree Hypertech Powerstat and changed the settings according to the instructions that came with the tuner.....
Fan 1 from 227 (stock) to 194 degrees
Fan 2 from 235 (stock) to 204 degrees
Setting the fans to lower temps should help a great deal. But before you do that I would take the time to clean out the fins on the radiator. These cars are bottom feeders and suck up every piece of sand, dirt or other debris on the road. You will be amazed at what is lodged in the radiator fins that blocks air flow enough to get the engine temps up into the high 230's in summer stop and go traffic. Flush the fins from the back side of the radiator with a strong stream of water from the garden hose after you pick out the big chunks from the front side.
So true. I may some day buy a programmer to reset my fans but for now what I do when in stop and go traffic and temp starts to get above 220 I just turn on the AC which turns on the fans sooner. Temps go down right away.
