Default No spark now!??!

so basically this all started when a piece of my block broke off where the outside starter bolt goes.. here's the thread for those interested..

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...hing-else.html

NOW, i have the block welded (battery was unplugged), put everything back together, go to crank. well the motor turns over now, but WONT START. i hooked up a tech 2 to it and it's not getting any spark and the computer isnt registering RPM. since, i've changed the crankshaft sensor to no avail. now i'm thinking the computer is bad or there's a broken wire somewhere in the harness that connects through the crankshaft sensor. i guess it would be possible to backfeed current through the harness with the battery unhooked. what do you guys think?

another question... if i do figure it's the computer, could ECS or any of those guys that do mail order tunes tune a new computer including the initial programming for my vin on my car without it being installed on the car?

any help or feedback is appreciated.

Is the ground for the starter in the right place?

yes. the starter turns the motor over, but it wont crank because there's no spark. when turning it over, the tech 2 does not register engine rpm or spark. the fuel pump kicks on when the key is on the on position, so i know it's getting fuel.

While the block was being welded, in sure the ground for the welder was on the chassis of the car?? Or was the motor pulled out? If so without the battery being disconnected etc you could have destroyed some electrical, BCM, ECM.

EDIT.. I would start going trhu fuses,Relays, checking continuity, and voltage to the coil packs.

Ok, typically, "crank" and "turn over" are one in the same thing. It is getting fuel, initially......but then really no. The PCM primes the fuel pump(by enabling the fuel pump relay) for 2 seconds when the key is turned on, it then looks for a crank sensor output. If the PCM does not get an input from the crank sensor, the pump relay does not stay engaged...thus...no fuel. So if you do not read RPM with the tech two when cranking the motor, the PCM will not engage the fuel pump relay.

You need to determine if you damaged the crank sensor wiring during the starter repair.

blown 346 - went through the fusebox with a testlight and all looks good. the motor was in the car when it was welded. the welder grounded on the oil pan.

lucky131969 - i began checking wiring last night. the blue wire was hot. the white and red were not. i'm going to have to get a diagram for the crank sensor this evening when i get off of work to get a better idea of what i'm looking for.

ok. Not sure what wires you are checking, but unless there has been a previous repair, there is no red or white wire going to the crank sensor .

Sounds like you might have run the blackish brown fusible link wire to ground instead of to the hot post. If you follow that wire back a few inches there is a link and then it's red other the other side.

hmmm... maybe i am making reference to the extension on the crankshaft sensor so it has more slack to go around the header? the car is a 99 frc. dont know if colors of wire could have changed within years? i dont know. i could have sworn they were red, white, and blue. then again, it was late... i'm going to have to take another look. thanks for the diagram man i appreciate it.

SDPC - are you referring to wires going to the starter? i have one to the small post up top and 3 on the lower hot post.

CASE CLOSED. broken wire to the crankshaft sensor. i'm sure the long tubes cooking it didnt help. a new pigtail and it cranked right up.
