Just finished H/C install and I'm not getting an oil pressure reading. i pulled the the connector on both coil packs and the fuse for the fuel pump. I cranked the motor over several times however I'm not showing any oil pressure. I checked to O ring on the oil pump three times on install to insure it didn't pinch. If i did pinch the O ring would that cause no oil pressure at all? I'm hoping the sending unit is bad however it was working and not removed only plugged back into the harness. I don't have my volt meter here at the shop with me to test it. I guess i will have to pick up parts to do a munual oil pressure test. Because if it is the oring i want to get started taking it apart again
Might want to look back over some pevious posts..in particular Bill Curlee. If I remember he had the same symptom and it turned out to be a connector or something like that and not a real problem. It will take a little time for pressure to build after head/cam install also.
Hope it all works out ok!
yea i saw that post about MAP sensor extension. I checked all of that and after pulling the intake and i realized i never unplugged the oil sending unit, so it was never touched. Man i really dont want to have to pull the oil pump!
Would a pinched o ring result in no oil pressure? also i cranked it over for 2 or 3 seconds 6 or 7 times.
Don't think that is really long enough for a fair test. Maybe try jacking up the rear a bit to help prime the pump and give it a longer try. By the way...I never tried cranking mine without coil packs - I was careful on install so I just let her rip. Had oil pressure in under 10 seconds if I recall correctly.

When I did my cam in mine I had this problem. I had very very low oil pressure (2-6lbs) the car ran for a few seconds low oil pressure message came on and when I saw it I turned it off. Took everything off to get to the oil pump and low and behold the O-Ring was cut and barely holding on, changed the O-Ring and I was good.
Ok i will try to start it in the morning and see if i get oil pressure. I'm almost positive i didn't cut the o ring however it's possible. thanks for the input guys.
With me having no oil pressure it makes me lean toward the sending unit. Im going to borrow a manual oil pressure test kit to be sure. I dont like the thought of trying to start it with no oil in the motor.

I'd say you were leaning the wrong way. Unless you've damaged the wiring to the OPS, a zero indication is a very uncommon failure for the sensor.
And why would you even think of starting the motor with no oil?

Normally they fail high

I think he just neglected the word "pressure".
OP, if you're going by the dash gauge be aware it might not even be getting power while cranking. I've never paid real close attention, but I don't think I see any oil pressure register until the engine has actually started and the ignition switch is moved to its [on] position. I can understand your trepidation though, and a manual gauge is a good thought.
Well the fun continues! Yesterday i went to the garage with intentions of pin pointing the problem, installed a manual gage and tried to crank the motor over..... nothing! Car would not crank, turns out the starter was bad So i pulled the pass. side header(what a PITA) and took the starter out and I'm getting ready to put the new one in. I guess its better to happen now as opposed to when the tuner had it. As a result of all this I'm getting some great exercise crawling in and out from underneath the car. (Trying to find the positive in a bad situation)
