Default Unusual experience while driving nude.......without TPSs that is

Last night I bolted a set of '02 Z06 wheels / tires takeoffs on my '98 vert. When I drove it this morning, I had no unusual messages from the DIC, however, every time the A4 downshifted under throttle application, the Traction System would kick in.

Just when I was about ready to chunk this new setup, the DIC displayed a "Service Tire Monitor System" message. This was not unexpected. The car had been driven exactly 10 miles when the message popped up. On a hunch, I kicked the throttle, the tranny downshifted, and no traction system messages!:D

I'm guessing that the activation of the traction system in the first 10 miles of driving was a safety feature because the car did not have the tire pressure data. I don't know what will happen when I drive the car again. Maybe I'll have to put up with this until I pass that 200 mile mark, where, as I understand it, the new condition should be learned.

Any thoughts?

I've read here on the forum that at 200 miles, the PCM gives up trying to warn you of the no signal condition from the TPS's.

To contine the story, I now have about 70 miles on the setup. The Traction System activation is intermittent. I've begun to wonder if some of the 303 Aerospace Protectant I put on the sidewalls migrated (i.e. dripped) on to the tread face. But at 60 miles, it should have worn off by now.

BTW, the F1 Supercars are much quieter than the EMTs. And a noticible improvement in cornering grip. :D

You can take it to a dealer, and they go through some key strokes on the Driver display buttons, then they use a magnet over the valve stems, and re learn the sensors. I had to have that done on mine when it was in the shop. Shouldnt be very expensive, it only took about 10 min to do.

Yes, I'm aware of that Daren, but, as the topic says, I'm running "nude"(i.e. without tire pressure sensors) The Z06 wheels/tire do not have them, and my '98 sensors will not fit the '02 Z06 wheels. So there are no sensors to "train".
