Fluid is checked HOT, car jacked up and level, car at idle with the trans in park.

Proper fluid level is the bottom of the fill hole on the side of the pan.

Wear mechanics gloves to avoid burns from the exhaust pipe.

Without special equipment you will only be draining and replacing a portion of the fluid. (Five quarts out of about 11 quarts if I remember correctly)

Yes, you can purchase a filter & gasket set.

So the question is: is it ok to use the fluid recommended by GM for your transmission? I invite you to think about that sir.....

You can also upgrade to Dex 6 with no problems.

As posted, there's more than one option for fluid types so even though the manual suggests it doesn't mean that's the only option. I think/hope THAT is why he was asking. Obviously a novice with mechanics and probably new to the vette community, certainly takes a lot to ask such questions.

As for checking, I've always suggested to get the fluid warmed up by simply taking a drive.

My point exactly. Why even confuse the issue? You can't go wrong with the factory recommendation. Post a question like that on this forum, and you get 12 different answers.......it just get's silly......

the reason i ask was to clarify what option of oil were available. there are two:
1) orginal dextron 111 can be used manuals suggest it.

2) syntheic dextron 6.. which will require full flush which is suggested by others

the problem is YOU CANNOT GET a direct answer from the dealer of which tranny oil they are replacing .. they say replace with orginal. BUT when, done is it?? i ask this morning and that's what i got for answer..

would any one care to make comment???

ok dealer got back.. they said they will top up any chevy vechicle with D-6, it has no problems mixing with D-3. D-6 enhances the properties of ... to further they only use d-6 in shop the prevent other fliuds entering new vechicle..

so..
1) it seems when repairing the tranny gasket and done in dealer. you will get new gasket (filter if requested), top up (approx 4-6 liters) of D-6. cost of about 1.4 hr labour

2) in tranny flush. all oil is replaced (about 11-12 liters) @179.95. no gasket( in my case, the gasket leaks) , no filter ( add as extras) plus 1.4 hr labour

another question: could the oil be change completely at home ( garage) HOW?and when does the filter and gaskets be replaced? before or after fliud changed?

If the gasket wasn't leaking I would say leave it alone since 35,000 KM is only 22K miles. With that little mileage I don't think there is any reason to change all of the fluid. Remember before they had the machine to flush fluids automatic transmissions got along just fine with filter changes and replacing the fluid that was in the pan. Worked well that way for 40+ years so I don't think you need to worry with your car.

The most important part of any autotrans fluid service is to replace the filter whether or not you get the unit flushed.
