Default c5 hood seal

I just purchased a hood seal for the c5. The car is in storage so I can't put it on. It seams like a good idea but not sure. Has anyone use it and is it worth the effort to install.

OK, you're a new member so I feel I need to warn you. You're going to get a lot of newbie ribbing about how much horsepower/torque to expect after installing a "performance hood seal".

Somebody is bound to tell you that you spent to much "Corvette tax" money because HOME DEPOT has essentially the same product for less money. I'd wager a bet that 90% of owners have a hood seal installed.

The seal will prevent most water from entering the leading edge between the bumper fascia and hood. It'll reduce the amount of dust entering the engine compartment, which is especially nice if you've also installed an after market air intake assembly. FYI, expect even more huge horsepower/torque increases from that as well.

Seriously, allow me to help you research almost any question that's ever been asked about a C5/Z06. The key is to use the correct keywords.

And the Help Forum on the main menu page will yield lots of threads on how to fully utilize the software features of this site.

In C5 Tech, use search or search this forum (in the red banner). In this case, use keywords "performance hood seal". You'll find hundreds...maybe thousands of past threads about the product. You'll avoid the ribbing that way.

Hmmm...I'm confused. You purchased the hood seal, and now you want to know if you should install it?

I got my hood seal down at the hardware store and I like it just fine. It's just a piece of insulation.

Thanks for the info. I purchased the seal it on line.It was cheep enough ($10.34 including shipping and I didn't have to drive to HD) so even if I don't use it I won't be out much and probably could find someone who will want it. I am glad to hear it does have some effect on keeping out the dust and water. Here is the sight Thanks to hotwheels57 for the info on searching

Since you already have it, you might as well install it. Clean the area well with something to promote adhesion. I like to use denatured alcohol.

You'll get used to the replies here. Not all of us teethed with silver crescent wrenches...

I can't believe you stored your Vette without a hood seal. I hope it's still ok in the spring when you open the hood. Good luck!

Hose the area down with alcohol before you stick it on.

For my friend the road pilot I was warned about members with low intellect who reply with non productive answers like yourself. I purchased the seal to keep out the dirt and grime not for more HP. I would be surprised if you even know what a hood seal is. I also have my doubts if you even own a corvette.

I've been thinking about one as well, just to keep out dirt, I'll be adding a Vararam soon so its definately not going to keep my filter cleaner!
