There was a topic a long while back about some C5s that were wearing the inside edge of the right front tire out. Was there a reason for this? Was there a solution? To be honest, I didn't pay a lot of attention to the topic at the time.
At any rate, I've noticed that *my* right front tire is starting to wear badly on the inside edge. It looks like the tire is cupping/dishing on the very inside edge.
The left side tire is wearing perfectly! The car drives perfect. No vibes, no pulling, steering is straight, car tracks very well.
Mine was doing this and I was able to obtain some custom wheel alignment specs from some forum members and it solved the problem. Hopefully some of those guys will see this and chime in and leave that info. for you as well. It was well worth the $140 bucks that the dealership charged to re-align my car. The alignment made my car drive even better then it did before and now the tires are wearing as good as the ones on my Honda Accord (not that the Honda is a better car) but for a High Performance Car to treat tires like a small sedan is a good thing!
I have a '99 coupe. I had an alignment done when I put new tires on at 26K miles. The service manager told me not to expect more than 20K to 25K on the front tires of a C5. At 8K on my new front tires I noticed a little cupping on the insides again. I had them rotated. Had to break them down and change R/L sides to keep the tire rotation direction correct. I now have 15K on the new tires and the wear is very even and more than half of the tread left. I expect a lot more than 25K out of these tires. By the way they are the non runflats by GoodYear. Just my $ .02 worth. Ride Safe....Ed
I too had very serious wear on inside edge of rt. front tire so I brought it to the dealer for an alignment. I never thought to ask them how far out of spec it was though. I was too angry they hadn't noticed the wear and brought it to my attention during the hundred times they had my car up on the ramp in the previous four months. :mad
