West Coast Corvette Challenge?
Hello. My name is Gary. I am a new member to this forum and a few others. I notice that the guys on the "other coast" have their own Corvette Challenge. Sounds like a great event
Do we have anything like that? If so, where and when?
If not, is anybody interested in finding a sponsor(s) and a track that might consider supporting an annual vette fest? :D
There are not a large number of Corvette owners on the Westside that are interested in drag racing. I checked out a lot of clubs and all they are interested in is crusing, car shows and going to dinner, the social aspect!

Re: West Coast Corvette Challenge? (gary brown)
John - many thanks for your guidance. I have taken you up on your kind offer and replied back-channel.
Al - I wasn't thinking just about the Westside only - actually I really AM thinking about this being a truly West COAST CC with folks bringing in their vets from all over the region including out-of-state.
Perhaps the lack of postings indicate lack of interest. Well, the post is here and I guess we'll see. If YOU are interested Al, just let me know. That would at least make TWO of us!
We could start off with a small event: get together a group of guys and gals who own vettes and want to race. Maybe include a car show for those who don't want to race. Any thoughts.

Good Luck!
If I relied on "CAR CLUBS" we still wouldn't have a race in JERSEY. However every car club do have a few members who would want to race. All you need is a few Vette owners to try racing and the waxers will be trading in their lawn chairs for helmets.
Like I told you Gary find a few guys and go racing, more will see the fun your all having they try it.

John - I'm gonna give it a try. Anybody interested just let me know. We don't need lots...just a few to start. Anybody game for some honest fun at WOT? :D

You've got that right ! I have been going to different club meetings here in So Cal and all they want to do is EAT ! I met a guy named TJ that has Vettes R Us in Temecula that is into autocross big time. They have an AX coming up March 23 & 24 at Qualcom stadium in SD. He said a lot of the vette guys come out for that series.
I was at Streets of Willow this last weekend and met up with Vettrdstr and hotrodbuick. That was a great day of some serious road racing with Wurth Motorsports. They will have more coming up on the future around So Cal.
I'm in for getting a group together to go on the Route 66, Pomona Swapmeet or whatever as long as the mean age of the bunch is under 65 and not on respirators.
Gary, The East Coast Corvette Challenge started with only 4 or 5 racers on Friday nights. 4 years later and we are hoping to see close to 100 cars at our first event this year?
Keep in mind each car you get can recruit another car and you are in business.
I would be interested, not necessarily in drag events but some sort of road course/autocross. Sounds like it would be fun. So Cal has Buttonwillow and Willow Springs. :yesnod:

It seems that my new log-in name is now "c5gofast" (was gary brown). I don't know, it was my birthday and I thought a little change might be nice! :D
Anyway, nothing personal but I am only interested in drag racing. Auto-x sounds interesting but I am a drag racer by nature - perhaps it is genetic? :)
Redgar - thanks for the encouragment. Going small is the best way to begin most projects.
Also, I have also posted this message on a couple of other forums in order to see what interest there is. So far, we have almost five guys who are interested in some vette bracket racing. That's enough to get started.
Now we have to find a track that will let us piggy-back onto one of their regular race days and maybe try to pick up a couple of sponsors to help with a few trophies and some gift-certificates or other goodies.
Anybody have some more ideas? I don't want this to be just a so cal thing. ANYBODY can participate who has a vette. I don't particularly care what year or configuration. That's what bracket racing is for. We can do NA and NOS,
with and w/o electrics. Whatever we decide, let's just keep it fun! :jester

P.S. I turned 55 today? Does that make me a geezer?
Who cares - I own a c5 and my 18-year old son will just have to drewl like I did for almost 40 years! Ahh, the joys of aging! ;)
hey Gary, don't feel bad I just turned 50 ( wow is that for real !?!) on Friday.
I'm up for some drag racing as well. Competition is competition - right ? These cars can do it all ! Irwindale raceway has drags on Sunday's and Thursday's. You will have to check their web site for details. Only problem there is they are 1/8 mile.
I also think that Fontana is up and running now too ! They have a full 1/4 mile to run.
I don't know if I've met you or not, I race most weekends at Carlsbad Raceway. If I haven't met you, next time you're down their, say hello to me... I drive a black C4 with Weld Draglite rims.
I of course would love to participate in a West Coast version of the very successful East Coast Corvette Challenge, however I think we'd have some very low car counts at this point in time, I don't think is because west coast corvette racers don't like to race.... because I think most vette owners out here do like to race when they get the chance to sneak out.... however, I do not think they are interested in Bracket racing... which is what the East Coast Corvette Challenge is.
However, if we ever did have a challenge, there is already the backbone of the venue in place with the monthly SRA (Safe Racing Assocation) events, in which basically they rent the track and invite everybody... Cost is $ 27 for a day of racing.... they could easily fit in a Corvette challenge series into the days festivities. :)
I think in another 5-10 years the west coast might be ready for such a series..... but dunno.

Re: West Coast Corvette Challenge? (gary brown)
Todd and Tom: welcome to the beginnings of the WCCC! Help me out here. What is SRA and can you tell me where they meet? Folks I have talked to want a full 1/4 track. I like the idea of Fontana. That could be central for many folks. We could piggy-back our event on a Saturday or a Sunday.
I wouldn't mind at all if there were just four or five guys. We can start small and grow from there. Actually, might be better. We can iron out the kinks as we go. I am much more into running a QUALITY event. Size actually doesn't matter to me. Just want us all to have some fun in the greatest production car on the planet - no matter what year or model!
I am starting an e-mail list. Let me know if any of your vette buddies might be interested. Just plain ol' bracket racing. We can also do heads up racing as well. Just gotta be FUN - otherwise, why bother! :jester
