I just installed my OBX headers but there's no way that the bracket on the bottom of the headers, bolts to the two holes in the bell housing that the stock H-pipe bolts do. The header brackets appear to be about an inch to wide and an inch towards that rear of the car relative to the stock holes. The headers didn't come with any hardware that would address this. I was wondering if any of you have encountered this and how you solved it? I was thinking worse comes to worse, I could machine something? Also, is it bad to be driving the car with the headers only bolted to the motor and the x-pipe in the meantime?
I read that those brackets are for alignment only. I have the obx headers on my z06, and I too was wondering why them brackets where not fitting correctly. Then I did some reasearch and found that it was for alignment only. Hope this helps.
If you feel you want to have those mounted it only takes a flat stock of metal and four holes drilled into it. A few washers for vertical alignment and you're done. It took me about an hour to make something to work.
They mount one the bellhousing, so when the engine moves the headers go with it.
Thanks for the info guys. I was thinking of making something like chevylad did. But, if everyone else doesn't have a problem, I think I'll just leave it as it is.
The alignment of those tabs has plagued LT fabricators since LT's for the C5 first appeared. The tabs on my FLP's were way off until I massaged them into alignment over the course of a couple of sessions.
The AR headers I installed on my wife's C5 don't even have the tabs - not really needed.
I don't agree. They may not help, but I doubt if they could hurt. The bracket is attached to the bellhousing, so it moves around with the engine, thus moving the headers with the engine.
Some people had mentioned the collector tabs were a bitch to get aligned. As there should be no tension on these, I loosened the 2 bolts at the top of this mounting bracket. It allows the bracket to move around enough to get the bolts started without force. This had NO EFFECT alining the rest of the exhaust. The PS tab was off by about 1 inch........a sign of some alignment problems down the road, even with the system installed loose........
This made my FLPs fit well.......

I agree, there should be no tension and do not force the tabs to align. Shim it or elongate the bolt holes so when you unbolt it, there is no release of tension.
