I installed the Borla Stinger that I received from Nate at Xtreme this morning.
I was hoping that the muffler portion would just connect up to the over axle pipe saving me some time and allowing me to swap my Corsa's back in whenever I wanted to if the Stinger was to loud for long trips or whatever.
It is just an inch or so different so I had to go all the way back to the flanges which is not that big of a deal. But as you will hear, that is a moot point.
The fit and finish of the exhaust is very good and came in a bulletproof box with everything well protected.
The Borla's are definately lighter - I can't tell you exactly how much because I didn't weigh them, but it is very noticable. I have an exhaust plate so when I got them installed they look pretty good. If you don't have one you would have to do something with the gap because it is pretty wide.
Now for the sound. I really like them! They have a much deeper, throater V8 sound than the Corsa's at idle, but they are NOT loud. My girlfriend didn't think there was much of a difference between the two, but she though the Borla's sounded "like a vette". When you rev it up it is a little louder than Corsa's, but again not real loud and definately not enought to annoy the neighbors.
On the road they are a little louder than Corsa's, but again not annoying and when you don't have your foot in it they are pretty quiet with no decernable resonance - at any RPM I tried. With you foot in it they sound great ! A little louder than the Corsa's, but deeper V8 tone.
I was thinking I would keep my Corsa's to swap in if they were too loud, but I am really happy with the way these sound so it looks like I will have them up for sale.
I will post some pix later today of the installation and the view from the rear.
A thank you to Nate for getting them out to me so fast and at a great price.
Awesome, glad you like them. I'm happy to hear that there isn't any resonance, I'm also switching from Corsa's and I was worried about that. Hopefully mine will show up next week, I'm really dying to put them on.
team5150 - thanks so much for the report - I think there are a bunch of people on this forum waiting for this information!!!
Can't wait to see the pictures.
I was just out driving around top off on this beautiful 80 degree day for about 100 miles with this new system.
It is really nice for those of you that want the louder sounding exhaust. It is definately louder than the Corsa's but you don't set off alarms in parking lots and scare little kids.
This does seem to be the step between the Corsa's and the SLP. AND the big bonus - no resonance that I could find in my powerband. Even at 1500RPM in 6th it was OK.
I am very happy with it -now anyone want a set of Corsa Indy's ?? I'll make you a deal !
Great. Now you are making me have second thoughts about the Corsas that I just put on my car about 2 weeks ago. I just wish the tips on the Borlas looked as good as the Corsa ProSeries. If they had tips that resembled the ProSeries, I would have the Borlas on their way as we speak. :yesnod:
Like I have said, I wanted the quad pipe as well but the "twin cannons" really give the rear of the car a unique look and let people know that this is not a stock car by any means - by sight or sound.
I have to admit when I drive into the garage and see the rear end with just the two pipes it looks mean just sitting there !
Good info, but curious how they compare to PRT's. No offense to Corsa owners, but I've never been a fan of Corsa's sound. The PRT's definately have a deeper sound than Corsa's, so I'm looking forward to a PRT/Borla comparison.
An interesting thing happened this evening coming home from work. The exhaust was noticeably louder after I started the car and got going down the street. I really liked the sound but it appears that when they are cold they are louder.
After running for about 10 minutes they had returned to the way they were before. It isn't a bad thing it is just kinda` weird.
Is there something about the construction of the mufflers that would cause this ?
