I have had a slow leak on RF tire for four years that the tire dealer has tried to fix over all that time. It isn't the tire, the tire dealer put a sealing compound on the wheel flange, but it still leaks (the wheels are aftermarket chromed aluminum, thinspoke and the flange has corrosion pits in it so I'm fairly certain that is the cause). This is my second Corvette with chromed aluminum wheels and boths sets peeled (that's because chrome doesn't bond for $h!t to aluminum - chemistry doesn't allow it, which is why the wheels are copper plated first).
Does anyone have a tip on anything else I can try or should I just start looking for another set of wheels? I really want polished aluminum thin spokes but really don't have the coin for them right now (which is why I air the tire up once a week and keep on trucking). Any ideas on what a set of polished thin spokes in decent shape should cost?
Do you have clip on wheel weights? put a mixture of liquid dish soap and water around the wheel bead, around the base of the TPMS and in the valve stem... look for bubbles.... that is your leak source.
Have you checked for a valve stem leak or a TPMS leak?
The torque might be wrong or the "o" ring flattened or damaged.
Use a #9 O ring from Home Depot.. use a little silicone grease
The correct torque for 97-00 is 106 inch-pounds.
NOTE that is just under 9 foot-pounds.
