Default rear lower ball joint stud

I replaced a wheel bearing & hub today, in reassembly I have a problem with the lower ball joint stud torning. Have tried to amke 2 different allen wrenchs to hold the stud but no luck. dont know if someone has another method, there is such limited space under the cv that by the time I some of the allen head off and clean the end up square again the 2 tools are not working// I though i may have to assemble, get enough weight on it to seat the ball joint stud then un assembly to finish tighting it? I am right at the taper of the stud.

Like you mentioned, I'd try jacking the arm up to try and seat the stud a little. It can be pretty stubborn sometimes, and I ended up making a little tool to hold the stud. I bent up a piece of 1/8 x 1 steel strapping, and welded on a little piece of allen key. Not pretty, but it works!

so are making these for sale? Only owning a corvette would make some go to that effeort. between spec's to see and getting light to see I'm tired. I dont weld either. You can only hit aluminum so hard!!!!!! My first was a 69 that was a major job to replace the rear wheel bearings, this one went smooth to this point. I'm to old for this!!!!

Try strapping the upright (or spindle or whatever you want to call it) to the base of the floor jack and then jacking under the lower ball joint to force it into the socket. This will easily get you enough force pressing it into the upright that it will quit turning and you should have no trouble tightening it.

I cut off part of my allen wrench just after the 90deg bend. It just fit as I recall.

Thanks for all of the replys, but our friend from canada had the fix, a strap over the top of the spindle attached both ends to the bottom of the jack loaked and snugged the stub into the taper and bing the lower ball joint is done. I had tried 2 different cut down allen wrenchs and either had to much or not enough, spent a day doing that. The strap works.

Huh?
There's about 1/4 inch between the CV joint and the top of the stud.
That's a pretty magical swivel.
