Default no start!

yes i used the search button!

99 A4, CLB done

every so often the vette wont start. at first i thought it was the GM 'fix' for the colum lock so i did the CLB.

now once again the car is dead, i checked the DIC for codes, none were current so i cleared the history (there were like 7 in the history for the BCM) and stupid me didnt write them down!

it does the whole ignition on cycle on the dash, fuel pump primes, battery was 12.7 volts and is new. i pulled fuse 23? and 25 and let the car sit for about half an hour, nada. i pulled the battery and charged it up anyway, still nada. i can gaurantee the car will start later on tonite tho... the BCM clicks away and the security light comes on when the key is removed... will not crank!

where do i look next?

Many possibilities.....codes always help....history or current. Security light comes on? The real question is: does the security light go out when the key is turned? Also, you say the BCM is "clicking"...are you referring to the TDR? If so, that is independent from the BCM.

As usual, this needs to be troubleshot in the no start condition....especially in the absence of codes. You can do some inspection of the solenoid wiring, battery cables, etc.

Do you have a DMM and can you read a schematic?

like i thought... let car sit for approx 3 hours and it fired right up and is fine now!! its like its on a timer!

sorry i thought that was the BCM next to the fuse box on the PS floor... the silver box down there clicks. security light does go out once car is running. battery cables checked out good. DMM?? ive rewired my 88 Camaro a number of times with diagrams and wat not... im a big DIY'er, someone else touching my cars is a last resort

Then this should be easy for you to troubleshoot.

Ok, leaning toward an ignition switch(which is common), but you should take the steps. Based on the schematic in this thread, what do you know when you have a no start condtion? i.e. is the TDR getting 12 volts at C2?

I had the same issue sometimes it started fine and other times it wouldn't start for hours & sometimes days. So I replaced the ignition switch after doing all the other checks battery, starter, etc and that fixed the problem. I took the switch apart and a couple of the contact points were burned so it was definitley the culprit.

got it all figured out! thanks for everyones help!

it was happening more and more often... so i smacked the starter solenoid and it started, turned the car off and no restart, smacked it again and it started... climbed under the car, everything was tight. took it to my mechanic and told him to change the starter and now its perfect! normally id do it myself but he had a spot to get my car in before this awesome weather holiday weekend so i figured id be better off just having him do it!
