Default Anyone ever done this??

So this past weekend I threw on a set of Texas Speed headers and put some DEI (name of a company) heat mat on the tunnel plate while I was down there. So anyway, with the headers I thought about buying some wire protector sleeves for my MSD (another name of a company) wires. (To protect against the added heat from the headers)

OR INSTEAD!!!!

Can you just use the DEI heat mat in a 1" x 4" (or how ever long the exposed part is) piece to wrap the wires???

Let me know what cha got,
Nate

Unfortunately not all of us are up on our linguistics, perhaps if you spelled out, you would get more answer's and broaden our horizons on possible mods (modding/upgrades) of our shorts (cars, vehicles), that others may want to do, but have no idea as to what you are talking about....Just a hint,,,,,,,,,,LOL

Thanks for the translations, I actually knew what you were talking about once I saw the translations, I think I had a brain fart that day. Glad you got it worked out.........

I think most people purchase the products with an intended purpose in mind.....it's your car....rig it up as you see fit.

Try it....if it doesn't work, it can be fixed. Just might cost more. :-)

On the other hand, some of the greatest inventions began with someone "rigging it up as he/she saw fit" rather than accepting only what the market had to offer.

msd wires are garbage and a waste of a c-note

8,9,10,11 sec cars most often run OEM GMPP or LS2 wires w/ NGK plugs

I don't own a single digit car myself

but anything more than 75 for wires and 20 for plugs is a WASTE

that is all.

The MSD wires were on the car when I bought her, and Im not going to change them. The reason I asked about the sleeves vs. the heat wrap is because I have the heat wrap and dont feel like spending the money on sleeves if I dont need them.

I think a lot depends on the temp. rating of the wrap plus whether or not appearance is a factor. If you DO decide to use wrap, make sure that whatever attaching method is used doesn't include glue or adhesives. Some of the heat wrap that DEI sells is adhesive backed, but it gets too hot there and it wouldn't stick. Maybe use the small, thin, metal straps/bands that are sold for that purpose (used on header wrap) or make your own using some thin wire and trim them neatly.

I went with sleeves.......

They look as good as they work. And they really weren't that expensive.

I would fear adapting the heat wrap to do the job of a set of sleeves would look too "home-made" or as we used to say, "Mickey Mouse".

But it's your car and your money, I can't see why the warp couldn't be made to work......

Good luck....

I bought Cool Socks when I got headers, and have used them for years now. Pretty cheap, and effective, two of my favorite things!

Thanks for the last 4 posts, thats what I was looking for. I do agree that it may look too "homemade". I also didnt think about the adhesive melting, good point. At this point Im leaning toward the sleeves.
Thanks for everyones input,
Nate
