Default No Actuator Noise in Column? Two E7501s?

My friend Evan's 01 MN6 has the hiccups.

"PULL KEY, WAIT 10 SECONDS"
"SERVICE COLUMN LOCK"
etc etc

We've spent all night searching the forum. If I read one more CLB thread my head will explode. (so i decided to make yet another?)

The car has been serviced by a dealer. Two R.Os for E7501, once in 06 and once in 03 I believe, and a V1144 (04006)

Despite the records, there is definitely not a K Harness installed. Perhaps it was removed during the second E7501.

We are going to go ahead and do a CLB, but we can't seem to find any information on whether or not we are supposed to be hearing the actuator noise upon key insertion/removal. Does the BCM think it is locked and therefore not trying to fire the motor? Is this normal?

Also, if anyone has a picture of the recall relay on the BCM that would be helpful. Records don't show it, but since they do show E7501 twice i figure we had better make sure. Just dont know what we're supposed to be looking for down there.

Thanks in advance.

Jack

I believe that even after you have the CLD installed you should still hear the sound of the solenoid activate when you insert or pull the key.

I had the tumblers malfunction in my car and it acted exactly like all the column lock problems. In this case is was mechanical and not electrical. The dealer replaced the mechanism and the tech installed the CLB while he was in there. The dealer contacted the GM Area Service Rep and got them to warranty the hole thing even though I was years out of warranty.

My steering isn't currently locked, there is no actuator noise, key in or key out (which could mean its stuck mechanically). Service column lock is displayed on the dash.

Would the unlock tool that comes with the CLB work, or even with the CLB, would we will still hear the column actuator moving on key in and key out?

i'll explode your column thread head lock. but srsly, why would they service the mechanism twice? cant remove the plate more than once! and if theres a 04006 in the history, why is there no k harness? im not coneerned about the lack of actuator noise, just want to understand the service records.

Ok, found out more. I do in fact have the relay module (passenger footwell 4" above the BCM) It was tucked up in there. The Relay is the latest recall from GM, and when this was done GM was instructed to remove the K harness as part of the recall. This explains no K harness. Relay module has (2 orange, white, green, purple)...if it hasnt been done it only has 4 wires.

Now I just need to find out what jumpering pins 30 and 87 not 87a, will do for me, and if a CLB is required along with this, or if it can be done on its own.

Any help is appreciated.

FWIW: The tech (the one who knew WTH he was doing) could hear something amiss on my car. It threw a false signal to the computer which triggered the fuel cutoff.

I believe jumping the pins will restore fuel supply if it has been cut-off. Have you tried pulling the fuses in the footwell panel to reset the lock? #23 & #25 I think - check label on fuse cover to make sure.
