Last night I installed a new air coupler on my 98' (replaced the stock "accordian" style with a new red one just for appearance change). This is all that I did. Upon starting up the car, my engine light is now on. I realized that I left the harness plug that runs to the air bridge off, and plugged it back in, but the engine light is still on. There are a couple of questions I'm hoping that someone can answer for me.
1. Is the harness plug in the air bridge for an air temp. sensor (if not, what is it for)? I don't think 2000's and newer have this.
2. On the 97-98's, there is a small line that plugs into the driver's side of the "accordian" style coupler, what is this? It looks like a vacuum line. Is it necessary on the new coupler to drill a small hole and reinstall it, I don't want to leave it just dangling free (the new couplers don't come with provisions for it).
3. I now have an engine light that won't go off. Is this something that has to be reset in the pcm (by the dealer), or should the light go off after the problem that caused it is resolved?
The car seems to run fine, but the engine light being on is a little disconcerting. Thanks for any help you guys can give.
The light will go off if everything is put back! The bridge is on the Throttle body tightly, the MAF sensor is all the way in. The black plastic vent line is in place.
If your sure everything is on straight and sealed tight. The light will eventually go off.
Try clearing the codes that should work! If it goes off and comes back on there’s something not right with the install.
That line is the MAT sensor (Mass Air Temperature). It must be installed into the new duct. You can either put it in the same spot, or there is usually place for the sensor on the other end of the coupler on the driver's side. The other location is where the 2001/2002 C5's have their MAT sensor. The new location is cooler providing as much as 5 HP gain. I believe the hole diameter is 7/16"
To reset your codes, with engine off, turn the key on. Hold the Options and press the Fuel 4 times. After scolling, you can page through using Options for forward and Trip for back. Press the reset to delete the code. Metric to exit.
Thanks for all of the help guys, got it figured out. After going through the procedures you guys listed for getting into the diagnostic codes, there were 2 codes thrown, both related to intake air temp. Undoubtedly this was due to me leaving the air bridge sensor unplugged the first time I started the car after the new coupler install. I reset the codes, and voila, the engine light goes off! :D
I now have a printout sitting on my desk with all of the applicable codes for each system in the car just in case an issue like this rears it ugly head again. Thanks guys, you've helped me out of another one (and kept me from a trip to the dealer for no reason... that probably would have cost me!)
