2001 Z06 ?'s
Recently purchased a 2001 Z06 with 73kmi. Alls well and great with the car other than two quirks.
1. The E-brake doesnt seem to grab well. Im guessing its just from use. I also have heard the shoes will last the vehicle's life. They just need adjusting. Basically i have to pull the handle ALL the way up and it barely grabs the car. Is adjusting the shoes the fix?
2. A service vehicle soon/service active handling message pops up about 50% of the time. I havent driven it enough to find out if its showing up under certain conditions. But the traction control seems to work fine, and so does the abs. Is there an easy fix to this as well? I am looking at a steering wheel rate sensor, is this a common fix to the message?

Those messages can be caused by a number of things. One of them being the steering wheel position sensor. (I know, I had to have mine replaced) You will need to look at the codes on the DIC. A simple search on codes will net a good description of how to display and read the codes.

Park brake adjustment is not necessary after replacing the park brake lever or park brake cables. The park brake cables are tensioned automatically by cycling the park brake lever three times.
1. Apply and fully release the parking brake three times.
2. Verify that the parking brake lever releases completely.
3. Turn ON the ignition. Verify that the red BRAKE warning indicator lamp is off.
4. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
5. Remove the rear tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
Important
Do not operate the park brake lever with the rear disc brake rotor(s) removed.
6. Remove the rear disc brake rotors. Refer to Brake Rotor Replacement - Rear in Disc Brakes.
7. Place the inside measurement contacts of the J 21177-A at the widest point of the drum portion of the brake rotor.
8. Tighten the set screw on the tool in order to ensure the proper measurement when removing the tool from the drum.
9. Position the outside measurement contacts of the J 21177-A over the park brake shoe at the widest point.
Important
If the gap between the adjuster nut and the adjuster screw exceeds 5 mm (0.25 in) during the adjustment procedure, the park brake shoe must be replaced.
10. Adjust the park brake shoe-to-drum clearance by rotating the adjustment nut on the park brake actuator.
Specification
0.38 mm (0.015 in)
11. Install the rear brake rotors. Refer to Brake Rotor Replacement - Rear in Disc Brakes.
12. Install the rear tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
13. Apply and release the park brake lever three times .
14. Apply the park brake lever. Inspect the rotation of the rear wheels:
* The wheels should not rotate forward.
* The wheels should drag or not rotate rearward.
15. If the rear tire and wheel assemblies rotate forward or do not exhibit drag rearward, repeat the adjustment procedure.
16. Release the parking lever. Verify that the wheels rotate freely
17. Lower the vehicle
As for your codes:
To enter the Diagnostic Display function perform the following steps in order:
1. Turn ON the ignition switch, engine OFF.
2. Press the RESET button to acknowledge any warning messages present.
3. Press the OPTIONS button on the Driver Information Center (DIC) and hold.
4. While holding the OPTIONS button press the FUEL button 4 times within a 10 second period.
5. System will first enter automatic display mode followed by the manual display mode.
The automatic display feature allow you to read each module DTC display function in an automatic display sequence. Each system module DTC will be displayed for 3 seconds followed by a 1 second pause before the next DTC is displayed in an automatic sequence. If no DTC information is sent to the IPC from the system currently displayed on the IPC, the IPC will display NO CODES for that system. At any time during the automatic display function, the manual display feature can be activated by pressing any button on the DIC except the E/M 5 button. The E/M 5 button is used to completely exit the DIAGNOSTICS mode at any time. If there is a communications problem between any system, the IPC will display NO COMM when the IPC is trying to communicate with that system. When all DTCs have been displayed for all systems, the IPC will display NO MORE CODES for 2 seconds then will enter the manual display mode, waiting for manual mode operation.
The manual display feature allows you to manually select each module DTC display function. The manual mode will automatically be entered after the automatic DTC display sequence is complete, or can be entered at any time during the automatic mode by pressing any button on the DIC except the E/M 5 (E/M 5 button is used to exit the DIAGNOSTIC mode at any time).
When the manual mode is selected, the IPC will display the MANUAL DIAGNOSTICS mode message for 2 seconds, or until any button on the DIC except the E/M 5 is pressed. After the MANUAL DIAGNOSTICS mode message is displayed, the IPC will display the first system abbreviation and quantity of codes stored for that system, then the IPC will wait for further instructions. The buttons on the DIC provide the following functions when operating the on-board diagnostic feature in the manual mode:

When first engaged the on-board diagnostics go into an "automatic" mode which shows all parameters: PCM-TCS-RTD-BCM-IPC-radio-HVAC-LDCM-RDCM-SCM-RFA. If there are no problems, you will see "no more codes" on the ICP display. The computer will show two kinds of codes, "current" and "history," designated "C" or "H". A current code indicates a malfunction is present in the system whose module is displaying data. A history code indicates a past problem. When the screen displays "manual diagnostics," select the desired module by pressing the "options" button to go forward or the "trip" button to go back. Press "gages" to go forward or "fuel" to go back. To exit the diagnostic mode at any time, press "E/M".
