On an 02 Z06 with OEM rockers. How much slack should there be in the center part (i think its called the trunion) ? I noticed that all of those I have inspected on my car so far have some wiggle to the center part.
I took a short video to show how much movement I am finding. How tight should they be ?
They are pretty much the exact same as yours when new
Thanks Very Much for the reply ! I'm chasing after an engine noise on this car and am trying to eliminate all the possible causes. If it turns out to be lifters I will be contacting SD for my replacements.
If you would like to offer an opinion or prediction of what this will turn out to be, heres a link to the thread with a Video of the bad sound.
The OEM rockers with the Comp trunion upgrade is the way to go. "Full rollers" make people feel good, but thats because they dont understand that the sliding pad on an OEM style rock is superior.
The "roller" wheel everyone likes, doesnt even roll. It just sits there and is dead weight added specifically where you do not want it, which can help lead to valve train instability.
In all honesty, I considered installing the H-S full roller rocker arms on my car. I spoke with an H-S tech rep, and he told me that they don't recommend them for street use, but really didn't elaborate why...
I've also heard conflicting stories as to whether or not they fit under the OE valve covers without modding the covers.
I think I am going to go with the OEM's with the trunion upgrade.
I was looking at a set of those H-S rockers at Jegs the other day. The look really beefy but I think its overkill for my setup.
I did find the mystery noise that had me checking my rockers, it turned out that the metal plate that was attached to the underside of my intake (plenum ?) was really loose. Out of 14 screws 4 had fallen completely out and were sitting on top of the valley pan, 2 were snug and the remaining 8 were loose enough to turn by hand. The car was making a delightful internal engine fart / squeal noise.
