So I am pretty frustrated at this point...I went to flush the coolant on my rig and was just about finished. I was installing the petcock, but as I usually do I started late, and it had gotten dark so I couldn't see all that well, I go to tighten the petcock and I couldn't see so I gave it a bit more, and well I broke it. It just spins now, since I was ticked I just dropped the car and came in now, will finish tomorrow I guess, will get up early and get the parts.
Question now is, how do I remove my broken drain, I am looking for some guidance from my brothers of the broken **** club (BCC). Ya I said that, and I don't think viagra is going to help here.
So I think I have probably broken the pin in which case it should probably just pull out...will try tomorrow. Looks like no one wanted to touch my broken pet **** problem.
above is what the replacement drain **** looks like. original didn't have a thumb hold piece. it had a 1/4 sq drive recess. pin is steel and usually corrodes from acidic build up in unchanged coolant. you may have rounded off or broke the pin or cracked the plastic that hardens with heat and time. may need a pair of needle nose to get the old out. new replacement is cheap maybe 5 bucks most.
So being in Canada I am getting screwed, Napa doesn't have it and another local parts store that I hate wants $9 for it, the same one Rock auto sells for $3. I am going to wait until Monday to see how much the stealership wants for it.
Bit the bullet as it wasn't worth the extra drive to go somewhere else but it cost me $8. Anyways, if anyone does this in the future, when the pin is broken it just pops right out, I pried it a bit with a screw driver and it came out easy.
You really should not try to open the drain **** by feel.
You need to get where you can see the slot in the radiator housing and line the pin up with the slot before you pull it out.
I think the pin is supposed to help drive the drain open, but try to work it out by hand so I don't break anything.
