Measure the resistace using a VOM. Go into FLEABAY and look up Corvette VATS key. Find someone who lists the conversion from OHMS resistance to VATS number 2 to 13. Look for lowest price including shipping and buy 1 or 2 blank keys with the right resister pellet.
Go to a local LOCKSMITH (not Home Depot or K Mart) and get the blank keys cut using your original. I called around and found a locksmith that charged $1.50 per key.
You will save a LOT by not going to the dealer.
This chart, $10 to the Auction site, and $2 at a locksmith, and you got a key. Big Hank got it right!
--------------------------------------------------
The following Chart shows the Vats Code values and there respective resistor values in ohms. Divide the ohm values by 1000 to convert the value to kohms. Example: 402 ohms converted to kohms is 402/1000 = .402 kohms. Or if your meter is displaying the value in kohms you can convert kohms to ohms by multiplying by 1000. Example: .402 kohms converted to ohms is .402 x 1000 = 402.

It's not a "chip", it's a resistor "pellet" but yes, you are correct. Go for it.
