hey guys i was wondering if your supposed to gap iridium plugs. i was told by the shop i bought them from that you are not supposed to and they come pre gapped. i also bought the most expensive wires they had which were power max blue wires. the more i look into it seems like the wires are crap and my car idles bad when at optimum temps.

No. They are pre-gapped at .040. If you do gap them, you destroy the plating.....
Plugs and wires are discussed on this forum often. GM replacement wires are a no brainer for stock to 800RWHP cars. No advantage whatsoever with aftermarket wires.....other than color options...
The factory claims that they don't require gapping. If you do decide to pull them out an re-gap them, please be sure to use the proper gaping tool so as not to destroy your new plugs. Also, I seriously doubt that any damage has been caused to your engine.
Nope. I'm not sure what would lead you to believe you damaged your engine from an improperly gapped plug.....so I would not be concerned. If you did gap the Iridiums...they may be trashed. That's it..
I'd first check to make sure the wires are properly installed and fully plugged in at both ends. One wire "bouncing" around on the end of a plug would cause issues like you're seeing. They should click twice when you plug them into the coils. Make sure something dumb didn't happen like the wire end was pushed into the boot and only the boot is holding the wire on the coil.
Isn't it the GM Performance Parts wires or something like that he should get and not the stock wires? They are red and don't look anything like the grey ones with the steel covers that came on my LS1 stock.
I replaced my plugs and wires two years ago expecting an improvement, what I got was poor acceration and an egnie idle that was rough.
I removed the plugs and found the gap to be out of specification. I also heard that they are pre-gaped.
I re-gaped them, use plenty of contact grease and re-installed them. I got a smooth engine idle after the re-gap.
