After several cold days, my 2000 Corvette C5 lost all battery power. Hooking it up to a charger, only a fan came on. I was told that I needed to disconnect the battery, then charge it. When fully charged I reconnected it. The fan came on and dash board lit up and when turning the starter key it all went dead. Is there a main fuse some where? Please help me figure this one out.
Ever hear of a device called a VOLTMETER? The cheap ones are about $10 at Radio Shack-could be a useful device. Your battery is most likely toast or you have a bad ground. Did you try to jump it to get it started?????
You failed to mention how old & if you own a trickle charger? These C/5's eat batteries, w/out keeping them on a trickle charge , & if not driving them weekly. Sounds as though you're in need of a new battery. If so, might want to check on a red or yellow top, Sear's now sells a "Platinum" series gell battery. The C/5's are also know to leak battery acid down into the PCM (Power Controll Module). That's why the advise on the batteries mentioned above when getting a new one. Hope this helps a little & good luck.
Sounds like at least one cell in the battery is toast - if not more than one. If the battery is approaching anywhere near five years of age consider it a good battery life.
Swing through Sears and have them run a diagnostic test or check with your favorite mechanic that owes you a favor to see what kind of charge the battery is able to retain. From there you can decide if it's time for a new battery.
