Default leak between the tranny and diff

im going to be replacing the clutch this weekend so im going to go ahead and fix this also.

what kind of seals or gaskets could be leaking? i cant find any info online of whats between them.
its wet all the way around where they bolt together and there is a slight drip. is there just a main gaskets that goes between them or are there seals between there?

and are there any vendors on here that will carry what i need?

If it's an automatic, theres a large o ring and a smaller seal that sets into your rear diff seal plate. If it's a stick shift, theres a large o ring that is at the rear of the trans. Don't have the numbers, hope this helps. Vendor's right here on the forum will be able to set you up.

Before I changed out the diff, on my Z, I went to the Chevy parts and he couldn't find the seal on the computer. I swear, when I changed it out there was one up in there, but went ahead and put it back together, w/out changing it out. I now have a very slow leak that I didn't have before. Check w/ Gene Culley, GM parts in the c/5 parts for sale section.

I have a manual trans and mine ended up being between the trans and the trans extension housing.

Never the less, I tightened up the bolts between the two and put a bead of 'The right stuff' as recommended here on the forum and I have not had any problems since.

One day I will need to replace some parts in my Diff and it will be worth fixing.

Both the Trans and Diff should have their own seal. I do not think you should have oil between the two unless one of those is leaking. The color of the fluid should be a good indicator as which it is.

The leak at the area, will be coming from the trans, right where the trans/diff mate up That seal is on the tail end of the trans & slides into a round 3/8"? slot @ the front of the diff. It would be a good idea to put some sealant on the flat area of the diff/trans where they meet, befor boltin up. I wouldn't tear things apart just for this leak. I'd wait untill the axle seals, and or o rings start to leak, and do them all at the same time.

well im pullin it apart to replace the clutch, so i was going to fix this while its out of the car.

im a little confused with your explination about the seal your talking about, is this as simple as unbolting those 4 bolts and throwin some sealer on the 2 faces and bolting back together? or are you talking about putting sealer on the outside of the caes?

Not on the out side. In between where the diff/rans slide together on the flanges.

okay, so no shaft seals will be needed then right? is it real in-depth to pull those 2 halves appart or is it cut and dry?

You have a leak between the trans main case and the tailshaft housing. If you have it out, remove 8 15mm bolts and reseal it. The GM part number for the o-ring seal between the trans and the diff is: 12369456.
