Default ID a differential

Is there a way to ID a differential? I ordered a 3.42 differential online but they sent me a 3.15 by mistake. Then they sent me a second one but this one doesn't have the tin ID tag on it indicating the gears that the first one had. Is there a way to confirm prior to install? I'm fairly confident it's correct but would feel a little better if I could confirm it. There is a serial number or something stamped in the housing and it is a Getrag housing.

Count the teeth on the ring & pinion.
On a 3.42 there are 41 teeth on the ring (large gear) & 12 on the pinion.

I believe you'd have to go w/ the C/6 cradle too.
