Default HID lights

Will installing HID lights cause an error message or are they compatable with my 1999 C5?

All I can tel you is I have HID low beams and HID fogs on my 1999 C5 and I don't remember ever throwing a code for these.

They make a world of difference in the light output!

I have been looking at the C5R projected style, also the kits for the factory lights, and some "dual" inserts that go into the factory lights so it would not a square lamp (dual) but not projected still fit in the factory setup.
Mine is a low mileage car but if I keep the factory style I should probably still convert to the metal gear kits. If I go with the C5R projected I like the looks but concerned with moisture getting in, or the black or chrome fading?
Can you guys chime in on your experiences and pluses and minuses of each?
Also is the 6000 the best all around type of light?

Thanks

Carlos

You won't get any codes. Be sure to buy our resistor for your lows or the lights won't lower and raise like normal.

I don't know anything about the C5R lights so sorry I can't provide help for those.

4300k/5000k is the brightest pure white light. 6000k is a nice white with a small hint of blue. It's still bright, but not as bright as 4300k/5000k.

This info is for my kits. Some of the cheap ebay kits are more blue or more white in 6000k.

Thanks JW, is there a difference in life expectancy, or legality on brightness I may have to consider with the different type lights?

I have the 6000K HID's w/resistor and no problems with error codes or anything else as far as the C5's operation BUT I have been getting a lot of flashes from on-coming cars. I lowered the lights but am still getting flashed. They are annoying on-coming cars. Thinking about pulling them out. I also don't want to be pulled over by an annoyed cop at night for a headlight check.

That would be nice of you to remove them. They are very very blinding bright and annoying. HIDS should only be used with projectors not your stock light housing that will cause very bad hot spots and bleeding of the light.

Excellent, I apoligize to the OP, I hope you don't think I am trying to highjack your post. These are very good points in evaluating this mod.
So the stock lights would or could disperse the light but a projector type would keep it in a tighter area in front of the car?

of course and with out resistors or upgraded wires you will have problems operating your lights
