Default Will Cold Air intake void warranty

Im the one with all the oil consumption problems and I have put a Donaldson Blackwing along with a power duct on the car a couple weeks ago. Do you think that they might tell me to walk when I bring the car in Friday for them to measure the amount of oil to fill up the car. I have another post "Now I have heard it all" to catch you up on the oil consumption.

I don't think so. K & N Filters (check their web site) has a piece about why a manufacturer can't void the factory warranty because a non factory air filter is used. If I understand it correctly, the dealer must supply you with free air filters for your car. Then, if you change to another brand of air filters---the warranty can be voided. As I noted, check K & N Filters web site for specific details. Hope this helps.

We beat this topic to death back in 99, the consensus was no. I took my car in under warranty to fix a little problem and nothing was mentioned.

Bill,I can tell you this, when I took mine back to the dealer to check out codes and such, they almost denied me my warranty to replace the malfunctioning MAF. I had installed a Halltech system and they got all out of shape when seeing it. They did the repair after some discussion. Dealer reception to mods is like the quality of service they provide...it varies from dealer to dealer. Read your post and all I can say is that it is a shame you are having the problems you report... good luck and hope you make out. Let us know of your outcome.

I believe the specific answer would be "only if that part caused failure of a covered part"....so in the MAF example above......maybe they could, but most of them won't....hell, they make money from GM for the repairs! I've haven't had problems with mine yet (36K miles....knock on wood), and now I'm under extended warranty, so if I do, it won't be going to the dealer anyway

If they say no to you, then ask them to prove to you that an aftermarket air filter caused your car to consume oil  Dont take thier crap, take your car in and demand them to work on it. You are the customer after all :yesnod:

It really will depend on the individual dealer/service writer. Some will give you all sorts of crap for it, others don't care. I'd ask around in your local forum and see where other cars with mods go for service, those dealers are probably a little more receptive. If you want to be absolutely safe, swap the stock setup back in for service, that's what I do.
