Strokers usually tend to burn a bit more oil than a stock motor but it sounds like this one is burning more than it should. I think burning a quart every 1000 or 1500 miles is acceptable, but anymore than that isn't.

I'm with 2000^C5 in asking what did Mike say? It sounds like it needed tht regular oil for a longer period before going to Mobil 1. Your consumption went from 1qt in 400 miles with the Mobil 1 to 1qt in 700 miles with the regular which shows it is getting better and will most likely get into that acceptable 1000-1500 miles per quart at least for what is more or less a race engine in a daily driver. I would think that 1qt per 1000 miles may be what you get after all is done if you constantly are in the throttle and use a bunch of nitrous. Should work out okay I would think.

Oil consumption ican be a biatch to trace, unless it's ring related. If the obvious ares such as PCV and guides have come up negative - I'd suggest a doing a leak-down test.

Skeeter,

I don't know what is acceptable for your setup, talking to your tuner
is definitely the thing to do. I can tell you that my 422 has not used that
much oil. I'd have to pull out my records to be sure, but I believe when
my motor was new, it used ~1.5qts on a 2000 mile trip. Since then, it tends
not to use oil except when it is run on track. When running hard at the
track, it can use 1 - 2 qts in 200 miles, but that is understandable :).

As mentioned, the strokers and high performance engines tend to use some oil. The harder its driven, the more it will use. Mine settled out at about 1qt per 5000mi of "my" average driving, more at the track. I would also ask Mike, he'll make sure all is right for you I bet.

Skeeter
Hows it going? I would tend to agree with the one quart every 1k-1.5k miles. If your ever going to that that beast to Moroso be sure to e-mail me. I only live 20 min. from the track.... I'll come out and cheer you on!
