I have a basically stock 2000 A4.I am contemplating installing a supercharger.I've only had this car at the track once and really don't plan on making a habit of it.Will the stock tranny handle a supercharger?
With a proper tune and limited track time it should last, but one can never be sure. I am going on a few years and lots of passes on my stock A4 w/a H/C package. I still have money put aside for when it does go.

My A4 lasted a year before I lost 4th gear with about 420rwhp. They are pretty weak and most "shift kits" actually are worst for it. Just save up and bet on it taking a dump eventually. $2500-3000 should get you a nice trans and tc. Good luck.

This is the problem. For some people, they will last a while and others tank very quickly. I didn't redo mine when I did the H/C package because I only had 13k on the clock and it has held up well. Others are not so lucky.
The problem with most FI & an Auto is the "downshift" when hitting the throttle. A-4's aren't built for that much torque at once. Kinda the same thing as if you leave the traction control on & when it allows the car to hit WOT......well bang will happen.
RPM sells stage 5 autos for $2400. They are the BEST for autos.
With a proper tune and street tires you should have no problems for a good amount of time.
The real issue is when people start adding sticky tires and horsing it around.

424 rwhp and 391 rwtq - no problems after 12K miles
It's been 4 years and 12K miles and I haven't had problems (at least not yet). I did have a shift kit installed which was supposed to help minimize problems. My car is also tuned to minimize downshifts (enough torque that I don't need it for passing, but did this more to avoid having the car kick-out sideways) - which probably helps. I've also got 3.42 gears and the tires spin pretty freely - which is probably a good thing for the transmission.
Just another data point and possible longevity ideas.
