Default Married into a Corvette...need help!

I have very little experience working on Vette's, but do most of the maintenance on my F150 truck...completely different as I am finding out!

My wife got her Dad's old car when he upgraded, and she drives it pretty hard. I want to get it running right, and I think there are some electrical problems, and I am also having trouble getting the A/C to work correctly.

These are the codes I am pulling up, are there any problems that a more experienced driver can identify?

TCS - C1226
- C1241
IPC - U1160
HVAC - B0361
- B0365
- B0367
- B0441
A0-LDCM - B22527

Thanks!

Here is a website that lists all the codes and their meaning.

Sportsfan, I'm not really the guy to help you, I assume they will chime in later, but for starters here is a link to break down those codes :http://web.archive.org/web/200406210.../IPC+codes.doc Quickly looking I'd say you will need to reset the actuators on the blend doors, you can find that procedure by doing a search. None of this stuff is all that hard but you will need to provide accurate description of your problems so we aren't on a wild goose chase here. Things like how the AC isn't working.... Blows only hot air, some vents are cold some are hot. AC only blows to floor or defrost. I think you get the picture. AC can be, effected by things as simple as low coolant to blown fuses. My guess here in maybe a combination of blend doors and low Freon. Which HVAC do you have, Dual Climate or Manual (3 ****)? Like I said not complicated just need to get all symptoms covered first.

As to other issues same applies. ....'pear"

I'm confused.....you tell the OP to reset the actuators, and then ask him if he has manual or auto a/c. The codes he provided implies he has auto climate control.....so your first suggestion was correct.

I was able to figure out from some of his codes he has Climate Control as opposed to Manual. My point was, his need to provide details as to what he has and what the symptoms are. … Dang Lucky I knew you’d show-up, you or Bill will help him more than I ever can. Just trying to get the ball rolling here. …”pear”

Thanks for the help so far.

I am going to start searching on how to reset the Actuators. I have only driven around my wife's car today, so I will have a better idea of exactly the problem or any patterns later in the week, but so far:

- The A/C blows from different temperature from the left and the right side.
- The A/C sometimes does not blow at all (this typically happens in conjunction with a malfunction that causes the blinkers to stop working)
- The A/C will sometimes only blow at full blast and not allow for lower settings.

From what I can tell these occurrences are random, but I will know that better the longer I drive it.

Another question: the seatbelt are very old and need to be replaced. Is this a do it yourself project, or am I better off at a mechanic or the dealership.

Thanks again.

Sportsfan, I’ll step-out on the A/C for now as we have one of the guru’s of electrical here now. As for the Seat Belt, that should be DYI, since it’s a safety item be sure and check the torque spec on the mounting bolts (really on any bolts, but especially on safety items such as this). ...and, Never the Stealership if you can help it. There is way too much help and knowledge here to feed them hard earned money.

Doubt the flasher/turn signal is tied to the A/C. Easy fix for that on this thread: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...l-problem.html ..."pear"

A/C is sounding more to me like a two part problem to me with your better description. Coolant and actuators. ..."pear"

May be a three part problem you could also have a vacuum leak or hose that came off. When I bought my vette I couldn't adjust the air flow direction for beans. Turned out my battery leaked on the vacuum lines rotted them out. Fortunately got it before the acid got to the electric wires.

Default Problem w/ fixes

So I went ahead and paid the $80 to have a local mechanic look at the car and there are definitely a few problems I need to fix. It would be awesome to get a confirmation that I am moving in the right direction:

- Seatbelts - definitely need to be replaced; have not figured out the procedure for this

- Hazard light/turn signal/front flashers - all need to be replaced. Something melted the front flashers, and the turn signal only works intermittently. I am going to run through these two procedures provided by Pear:
http://www.kd5fx.com/vette.html

- Actuators need to be completely replaced. There are 6 HVAC codes popping up, and I think it is best just to swap them out instead of reindexing. I am going to remove the dash based on the procedure listed here:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/1566290447-post1.html

Then I should be able to easily access the left and right actuator shown here:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/1557896547-post1.html

Finally, I will replace the left and right actuator with GM Part number 89018365...sold on amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-15-729...N%3DB0011YHOE4

I also have a part of my engine block that is a little bent, and I will upload pics and replace that later on, but right now, I need to tackle the flashers/turn signal (if anyone has the part numbers that would be awesome), and most importantly the HVAC actuator's. I hope I am on the right track and would appreciate any corrections / tips.

Thanks
Michael

Contact Gene Culley at www.gmpartshouse.com

He's a vendor here and has good prices on GM parts and can find it if you need it.

There are other great vendors here too, but Gene has been a great help to me. Give him call.

Does anyone know if I need to remove the lower dash to remove the upper dash; it is hard to tell from the HUD installation instructions.

Thanks.
