I just installed the stock OEM 12 disk player purchased from a fellow member of this forum. The unit is in like new condition but I noticed that it only plays certain CDs. It plays store bought CDs great but if I record a CD on my pc(using windows 7) from down loaded music it gives me the "ERR" message. However that same ERR CD in another cars cd player plays great. I am using CD-R CD's. Any ideas besides "why arent I using MP3 player"
The earlier cd players had a problem reading burnt cd's that are home made, that is because the amount of laser light has to be stronger to read the burnt cd's due to the lower reflectiveness of a home made cd and at the time no one thought about being able to record your own cd... You might want to invest in different media and test it in the player to see which one's it will recognize. Some burnable cd's have a black face, blue, gold or silver faces.
later model cd players came with the stronger lasers. So this is not a defect of the player, just technology. Don't even think of putting MP3 in an older player, they won't be recognized either.

I have found that the unit is Brand sensitive. Memorex CD-R seem to work fine. Jippo-Jake brand, not so much
Doesn't somebody now make disks just for music? Seems I remember seeing them last time I bought disks for the computer. Can't remember the brand..."pear"
Funny thing is that the in dash player plays all of my home recorded CDs but the rear unit only plays store bought.
Since we have no idea what year car you have or what year the Cd changer is , we'll have to guess.
The in dash CD unit is Bose- w/CD and the CD changer is either a Delco or Pioneer 25685332 model CDX-M2016. Year of manufacture makes no difference as far as function.
Yes , you have to use the slower CD format and only CD-R ( I use HP CD disc). My copies play in my 1995 Suburban's Bose in dash and 12 disc Delco 1699553 model CDX M-12( the CD cartridges interchange between the two CD changers models as well).
