Default Halo Weatherstrip Replacement

I am soon going to tackle the job of replacing the weatherstrip on each side of my targa top and the halo/bow running from one side to the other in back of the targa.

I found good instructions on replacing the targa weatherstrip but nothing on the halo.

Other than removing as much of the old weatherstrip and glue as possible are there any other tips or tricks to be aware of when doing this project?

I did the windshield and the targa, both just fit in a groove, with the targa being RTV/glued. I haven't looked closely at the halo, but the one thing that comes to mind is to be careful with the paint-work.

Where did you buy the weatherstripping from?

There are a couple of procedure reports here and on youtube:
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...procedure.html
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...n-learned.html
There are limited sources for weatherstripping, with GM no longer supplying any that I've found -- when they did, the targa side strips were over $350 eAcH. For the targa strips, there are a few suppliers, suffice it to say the least expensive versions have the worst long term reviews. The best reviews (aside from the no longer available GM) have been earned by Corvette Rubber Company, or CRC. I've found that often vettenuts has the best total price on CRC weatherstrips. For the halo, CRC is the only supplier I know of, and I found the CRC end sections to run about 1" shorter than OEM. Oh fun.
GM weatherstrips, particularly in the case of the halo, had pressure sensitive adhesive strategically applied as needed. To my knowledge, none of the aftermarket do. The halo and targa strips both slip fit in the channels. The targa strips have fasteners through metal inserts at each end, the halo has fasteners through metal inserts at the corners, and christmas tree fasteners at the ends. Push pins (4 required) are 20538173 or 15762170. Halo weatherstrip 10415918, halo weatherstrip screws (4 required for halo, 4 [I think] for targa) 11508231. For the locations originally adhered with PSA, I use 3M weatherstrip adhesive, 08008. It's pretty much a black rubber contact cement, so one wrong touch and you teach yourself new curse words. You also need a smidge of 3M Strip Calk, 08578 for use at the body seams under the ends of the halo, etc. I bought the box from Amazon, so if you want a strip or three, shoot me an address.

OEM NOS is by far the best way to go. If Chris at melrose has targa strips, check with him about a halo strip as well. Worth every penny (and more) to have new OEM.
