the "attention to detail" owner before me apparently hit something with the drivers side mirror and made it loose?? then to properly correct this problem he apparently put 3m super weatherstrip adhesive so it would not wiggle it looks like someone blew their nose all around where it should swivel!!!
i am trying to replace the mirror and thought i could pick up a used one. i have seen several: some with autodim some with mem some say heat??
i know my 98 has mem but are there any other options on a 98.....heat, autodim (mine does not have an autodim rearview....old flip tab)
i tried to look in the glovebox to find options but it is completely blank....i even took the entire thing out thinking it was behind it...no luck.
i have seen a few on ebay and some have different connectors which i'm sure has to do with the options.....is there a cutoff year that will fit a 98 or will any c5 mirror do?? any help is appreciated
You do not have Auto Diming, you know you have Memory. I don't know about Heated. I thought they all had Heated, but I'm probably wrong about that. Somone else will know. Look for the RPO Code sticker under one of the rear compartment covers.

You should have a heated mirror. No auto dimming. The memory mirror will have two connectors. The larger connector contains the connections for the heater element and the horizontal and vertical motor drives. The smaller connector contains the 4 connections for the mirror position feedback signals for the memory option.
Sounds like the spring that holds the swivel in place broke and the mirror fell off the car. That is a common occurrence on C5s. If you can find a solvent that won't damage the paint maybe you can get the adhesive off. There are stickies on how to fix the mirror once you get it off the car.
The big problem with replacing the mirror is painting it to match the car's color. It is very hard to get paint between the two parts of the mirror where it swivels and you can see the paint difference. If you are lucky enough to find a mirror the same color as your car then you don't have this problem.

obviously finding a nassau colored one is a chore.....have a post in parts with no luck as of yet. was looking at a spiral silver one hoping that the paint between the mirror and housing was not as obvious if painter can't get it.
any one have any suggestions on what might remove glue without removing paint? again i say it looks like the old 3m super weatherstrip adhesive i have used before....it is a yellowish looking color.
maybe leave well enough alone and wait out a nassau one......was hoping to replace front bumper and have bumper and mirror painted at the same time.
There is a sticky on this forum about repairing loose exterior side view mirrors.
saw that thanks.....
i was going to try and replace the mirror until i realized it might be a little more difficult to repaint inner visible portion of the mirror and used nassau ones seem to be rare. i think now i'm gonna try to find an adhesive remover and rebuild the one i have........just hope the process of removing the adhesive doesn't ruin the paint.
