Strange Rattle While in Gear
I have an issue I hope someone can help me diagnose. I have started to notice a rattle when idling in gear (reverse or drive) which is very noticeable in the garage where the sound resonates from the side garage walls. If the tranny is in park or neutral where RPMs are a bit higher the sound is very faint or practically goes away. The sound is definitely like a rattle not like belt chirp or squeal. At higher RPMs (if in gear and revving with brake applied) it seems to vanish. I replaced all the pulleys and belts not too long ago so I don't think that is the problem. I even just bought a new tensioner just in case but after installing it the noise was still there. I have been reading posts and have read about balancer issues but I have inspected the balancer while idling and do not see any noticeable wobble although I did notice some movement in the tensioner when my wife had the car in gear. Trying to decide whether to go ahead with having the harmonic balancer replaced just in case. Any other ideas???

I developed the same problem with mine while in gear. But mine started doing it after I had the tranny flushed and filled so could be something totally different. Have you had yours serviced? I took mine right back to GM that day and they gave me the line, "Well if this was it's first servicing at 80K then that will cause problems" and I shot them the, "Well this is it's 3rd servicing so shove it" And they refused to fix the problem because other than being annoying at a stop, the car runs fine. If you find out what it might be let me know.
