Default Timing chain

Does the LQ9 engine use the same "beefed up" timing chain as the LS2?
Can I use it on my LS1?

What is the question? Do you want to use the LS2 chain on an LQ9 or LS1.

I have one on my LS1. I would assume the LQ9 would be okay, but I don't know that for a fact.

I'm doing a cam swap and want to step up to the beefier "LS2" chain. Someone has a LQ9 chain that I can get fro a great price, but I want to make sure;
1. it fits the LS1
2. It is the same "beefy" chain

Assuming you are buying a NEW chain...

You can order an LS1 chain, an LS2 chain, or an LQ9 chain. The chain you will receive will be the same identical one no matter which of the 3 you asked for. The "beefed up" chain that first appeared on the LS2 is now the stock replacement part for all Gen3 engines.

If you are asking about using a takeoff chain from a stock LQ9 engine? No, I wouldn't. You can get the brand-new replacement chain for like $40, and the timing chain is certainly not the piece to skimp on.

It's not a knock-off chain. It is actually a brand new chain off of a LQ9 crate engine the guy didn't use
I'm not going to skimp on ANY of the pieces.
Going with ported HP pump, hardened pushrods and looking for a good timing chain. (Cams going to be custom ground as well )

Do I need the chain AND top gear?
Does the improved chain work on the stock gear, or is the gear redesigned as well?
