Default Automatic Transmission Flush and Fill

My 2003 C5 has 58,000 miles on it and I'm planning on having a flush and fill done on the Automatic Transmisson. The dealer wants $279 for a flush and fill while the Goodyear Dealer down the street wants $189. Seems like the dealer is trying to make up for lost sales volume by jacking up service prices. Would you be comfortable having Goodyear do a transmission flush and fill on your vehicle?

There is no reason to flush your transmission at 58k. The manual only calls for fliud changes at 50k if you are driving in heavy city traffic with temps over 90 degrees or other harsh treatment, like racing. Otherwise it calls for the change at 100k. You are in good shape to do it at 58k in either case.

I'd call them back and tell them to price a new filter and fill without the flush.

When I asked my tuner about doing a flush he told me he would just drop the pan and change the filter. Sure you only get 5 quarts or so drained but he said he has seen too many times where the flushing does damage pushing all the crud through the system. I have read many other opinions that flushing is not an issue. Not sure what to believe. I am at 45k and I will have my tuner do the basic service when I am in there next month.
