Spent all morning today searching CF. The only post I found that sounds similar ended up being a broken clutch disc. He had sheared the friction pad area of it right off of the center hub on the trans input shaft.
The first forward/back movement is with almost zero throttle, to show you that it engages and moves properly. (In fact I drove it about 5 miles home last night when it happened. Drove perfectly fine until I would hit the throttle.)
When you hear the noise I am at about 20% throttle and a VERY gentle clutch engagement. It stops as soon as I disengage the clutch.
I'm ordering a clutch but want to make sure that will be all I need. Hope to not find any other broken parts while I'm in there.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news but exactly what you think is wrong, is wrong. The clutch is shot. Happened to mine last october with 52,000 miles on it. New clutch solved everything.
