Melting Slicks
Appreciate any additional input on following; I get the ServiceAH, etc, on DIC but after seeing
this many times it only happens when I'm getting higher than normal output on charging
system. Battery was very old, replacement OEM battery from under warranty and about
six years old, tested with bad cell so replaced. Then problem continued and diagnosed
as bad replacement alternator since that had internal voltage regulator, ok for a week
then returned again but intermittant. Goes away for week or more than then returns for
a few episodes and goes away again. Car is 02 coupe with 107k miles, but about 12k
of those are track miles over 5 years from '03 to '07, very high temps. Grounds on WSS
have been checked. Output on DIC from voltage reading usually tops in low 16's but has
gone above 16.5, where I think I get "high voltage" msg. I did look through tutorial but
don't think this is ABS, AH system caused, it is electrical and setting off those codes.
Thanks, Randy

Bad news for us 99 C5 owners, according to Brandon from ABSFIXER;
"Sorry the 99 modules are not repairable. And they aren't compatible with the newer modules."
What does this mean to us 99 C5 owners? Any help is appreciated to those with the experience and knowledge.

"PM" Bill Currey @ gmparts direct & see if he can locate one for you.& Search C5 parts for sale section & post your WTB notice...GM ( I've heard ) does not carry replacement '99 EBCMs any more....BUT,you can still drive it, you just will not have a/h,t/c & abs assists... pretend it is a '69!....time to trade up.

Safety Car
OK guys, I have to chime in with my experience on this issue. My Father in law brought me His 2000 coupe to see what I could do about his ABS traction control light. So I hopped on here and got alot of knowledge on the C 1243 code and the abs control. I check all electrical connections as mentioned, I even ran a jumper cable from the negative on the battery to the grounding point on the frame where the motor connects to make sure I didn't have a ground problem. A Very important thing to know here is that you can clear that C 1243 code while the engine is running and the motor on the abs module will try to run. If the motor on the module is stuck the code will come back and so will the abs light/ traction control light. I cleared the code dozens of times and the motor would attempt to turn but was definetly stuck (you can hear the motor and see the lights in the car dim as it attempts to turn). I didnt like the idea of hot wiring the motor or jamming on the brakes to try to get the module freed up so I did none of those suggestions. But I figured it wouldn't hurt to tap on the abs motor a bit to try to free it up. Tapping on the abs motor then clearing the code didn't work, but getting a second person to tap on the motor while I cleared the code did work. It only took about 5 or 6 tries and the abs light finally stayed off. I am not sure how long it will last but if we only have to do this once in a while my father in law will be happy. He had no plans of replacing the abs module. Of course just use caution when tapping the motor while the engine is running. You will be working fairly close to the alternator pulley but its not a big deal. Best of luck.

Service Active Handling
Hi Bill,
Can you send a copy of your tutorial , so many have asked and seems it helps. We just purchased our first C5 and within 10 days got the service AH message. Would love to learn more about it and your input. Many thanks. Email is dpenaxx@yahoo.com.

Thank you Bill for the info. I'm down to the ABS fixer as the remedy but as a daily driver no time yet to exchange.
I have found that if I move the steering wheel while starting the car the DIC does not come on but may after about 20 minutes of driving but not always. When moving the steering wheel during start the code has never come on. If I forget it comes on frequently now, time for ABS fixer.

Mine's Fixed
Mine went out a couple of weeks ago. It's a 2002 with only 11,000 miles. Took 45 minutes to take it out, sent it to ABS Fixer (who turned it around in a day), and 20 minutes to put it back in. Works great. The warning lights are gone and I'm rolling again....

Can the car be started and moved when the module is off the car? I am doing this in someones garage and will need to move the car outside until the module comes back from absfixers.
