When I got home I still had a small amount of oil pressure and I shut the car off. I drained the oil and removed the filter to see if I could see any metal (which I didn't) and then refilled. I started the car and it started to make noise. I don't know how to describe the noise, other than it sounds like it has no oil.
As a note of caution from someone who had a rod rotate out the side of the engine, I would be very very cautious about running your engine until you know what is wrong with it. It sounds like you have lost a bearing, not totally uncommon in these cars, but right now I suspect most of the rest of the inside of your engine isn't destroyed. When the bearing seizes and the rod rotates out the side of the engine block, the dollar signs go up.
Thanks for the comments. If I were just going to change the oil pump, I would do it myself but I really don't know the extent of what needs replaced so my plan is to have it diagnosed and go from there. I was planning on doing a cam upgrade, so depending on what the problem is, I may just have it all done at once.

Would the engine have made any kind of noise prior to a bearing going bad?

Nope. The noise is from the additional clearance in the bearing and the drop in oil pressure which causes the lifters to lose their hydraulic support and brings in the valvetrain ticking from the gap created between the pushrods and rockers.
So how would I go about diagnosing what exactly is wrong? The Chevy dealer said it would cost $90 to diagnose, but how would they go about diagnosing a spun bearing etc.? With flat-bedding the car there would probably add $40 or so, not bad.
