Had my first oil change at the dealer on Wed. (normally I have done at my performance shop) the reason I had done at the dealer is that I have a credit with them. Anyway just came in from washing the vette and checked under the hood, I noticed that they topped off the brake fluid, it is just over the max fill line. My concern is that I run Motul 600 so I now have a mix. My regular mechanic is out of town so I need some advice. I don't want to contact the dealer because we all know they look down upon non stock changes.
Is this a problem? I just had the fluid changed about a month ago should I be concerned?
Thanks, Jo Ann
Topping off Brake Fluid is the absolute dumbest idea. Think about it. The only reason the fluid goes down is because the pads wear. Now when you replace the pads the fluid will go back to the original height. But if more was added then it's going to over flow and spill all over the place.
Some mechanics
Motors "Consume" oil. Therefore need to be topped off. Brake systems don't consume fluid unless they are leaking.
Ok now that I am done with my rant.... Dot 3 and 4 are fully compatable. The probabaly did not add enough to even make a difference in the ratio.
Just tell em never to do that again.. :nono:
I'm glad to hear that there is no problem mixing the two. I'm still trying to figure out why they would even top off. I'm now prepared for future visits though :boxing
Thanks!
Since you seem to get "outside" fluid service, you may just want to put a sticker (safety wire and seal concept here) with what ever you want to say on it. Since fluid topping is almost a automatic action/checklist item, the tech will note that your instructions were complied with rather than having to tell someone each time and each time having to check if people can follow instructions on paper. With a sticker on the brake fluid bottle it is REAL obvious!

Re: Top off brake fluid? (ruking1)
I agree completely. Over the years I've experienced this sort of thing several times. Example: I use GM Optikleen windshield washer fluid concentrate and mix it myself, using distilled water. If I don't say or do something when in a shop, some pimple faced kid is likely to "top all fluids" and he usually throws in some of that cheap blue washer fluid crap that they buy by the 55 Gal. barrel. Caveat emptor!! (Sp?) :D
