I have a 99 coupe and I was wondering if I can re-use the fuel pump bolts? I just installed a new gasket and now my fuel sending unit isnt working. I have the bolts that the heads break off when you have the right amount of torque. Pretty cool bolts. Im going to try the Techron gas additive, cause it did this to me a few weeks ago. Hopefully it will fix that. If not I was going to replace the sending unit. Thanks!
How did the sending unit look when you had it out?
Was the resistor a nice even copper color or were there dark patches on it?
If there were dark patches those are sulphur and can cause your problem but they can be cleaned off with electronic contact cleaner if not to bad.
If it looked good then chances are you got the float caught in the fuel sock.

It looked ok with some dark patches on it, going by what I looked at when I inspected it before I put it in. Ok I'll try to clean it off when I pull it, Im trying the Techron stuff right now and see if that will work. If not I will clean it with the Contact cleaner. I made sure the float wasnt stuck. I pushed up and down on the tank and heard it moving up and down, it was hitting the bottom of the tank. Thanks for the tips, dread pulling the pump back out, hate smelling like gas
i have had my fuel pump out quite a few times - i reused the bolts a few times and ended up braking one of the bolt heads off and had to pull the tank out of the car to extract it.
I would recommend just replacing the bolts - only a few of them and your local hardware store should have some in stainless... should only costs a few bucks.

oh ok, cool! Thanks! didnt think of the hardware store. I already had to drill and tap one out. That sucked. Thanks for the info!
i dont know the bolt information off hand, but the ones i ended up putting back in were phillip's head screws. Just made sure they were snug. If you notice a leak, just tighten them a little more
