Stereo Mods.........
Anyone done any stereo "enhancemants" to their C5? And, where did you mount the amps/subs?
Thanks,

I have a high-end ALPINE Tuner/CD Unit. My system is powered by 2 amps mounted on a custom board (I won't put holes in the vette) which sits right behind the seats. The board extends from one end to the other. The XTANT AMP powers the 2 MB QUARTZ Front Speakers as well as 2 MB QUARTZ Rears housed in 6" x 6" boxes which are also mounted to the board.
The other amp, an older KENWOOD 1020, is used only for base and powers my sub woofer. The board which the amps and 6x6 Speaker boxes are drilled into is covered by nice black velvet towel and tucked underneath. You can't see anything, even the wiring.
My sub is all but a 12" Kenwood woofer (The 12 is fine for me, I'm not much of base person.) enclosed in a seal tight enclosure. When I first bought this enclosure, it replaced 2 10's in a long bulky heavy enclosure. The lone 12" woofer in its enclosure sounds so much deeper but more importantly, cleaner, than the previous two MTX 10's (which ran on the same amp),
Initially, the sub enclosure itself layed in the back just the underneath the hatch. It took up half as much room than the other bulky box. Then one day, I discovered that it actually fits perfectly in the compartment well underneath the hatch. Since base is non-directional I placed it in that compartment and it only sticks out about 3 inches but the sides are a perfect fit. More importantly, I can can turn corners at high speeds without the box sliding all over the place. I was amazed when I discovered it. Its almost as if this box it were designed for the C5 as I now have plenty of room for groceries or a small misbehaving child. The system sounds beautiful and clean as a whistle, especially for a car that acoustically sucks. Plus, I have no problems hearing it with the top down at 90 mph.
You can get very radical with stereo but I draw the line somewhere. You could also get crazy with enclosures and components that are custom installed appearances, that is, componenets that are hidden and cannot be seen. But that will require drilling etc and I was not going to have any of that.
