How hot does your tranny get. I just installed a converter and my tranny has been running at warmer temps. (up to 210 degrees). I am thinking about installing a tranny cooler what do you think?
:seeya I KNOW what you mean! I just had my transmission rebuilt and i had the same option.I went with a deeper trans pan...holds an extra 2 pints. It's just one less thing to break. My temps average 180-195 ALL the time..:yesnod:
Check out trans parts at www.transmissioncenter.netUnfortunately they are NOT one of our CF vendors ...but they should be..:D
Mitch- If your tranny is running 210' in cool weather, driving normally, you need a cooler. My '01 Owner's Manual lists 270' as the redline, 230' or below is desired.
But the first easy thing is to check that your tranny is full. With trans temp 86'-122'F, engine RUNNING, trans in neutral, car level, the fluid should be level with the bottom of the fill hole. Don't shut off the engine while the plug is removed, or a quart or two of tranny fluid will puke out. But you probably knew that.....
That's the same unit I have. Mine is mounted in front of the A/C condenser, passenger side. Hoses go outboard and then curve down to pass through the notch in the top of the spring-loaded spoiler. Had to enlarge the notch a little so it won't hit the hoses when spoiler pivots. Covered hoses with flex wrap for extra protection. Tapped into top hose of stock cooler near the radiator. Works great.
Ooops, I forgot to mention that my kit did not have enough hose, B&M dosen't sell additional, and I couldn't find good stuff locally (300'+ working temp). Cheap hose is a sure-fire failure some day. Perma-Cool sells a hose kit for less than $20, got mine from Jegs. Forum venders might also have some, I haven't checked.
I installed a Derale cooler on mine, the cooler is between condensor and radiator, I ran my lines out the bottom and looped back up around the front swaybar, it's a little more vulnerable to road hazards than the upward installation, but it's much less visible from above. (That wasn't my goal with the install, I simply was dumb and couldn't figure the routing out the top out.) My Derale setup included plenty of hose, I ended up cutting off extra.
AZ summer, street driving, the temp will stabilize at between 190-195 max. On the track (road course), temps went from 270 max to 240 max. It definitely helps.
Forum member Evildeed helped me with the install, I'd say it was pretty easy.
