Default LS-1 Stock Ail Filter Lid

Anyone know how to remove the lid ? It seems to be held in place by bolts or grommets, I can't quite tell. I want to enlarge the intake hole for better breathing. There does not seem to be easy access to the attachments that are holding it in place. By the way this is on an '02 Coupe. Thanks in advance ! Nick :chevy

Nick:

Assuming your '02 is like my '01, it's held down by some rubber grommets that snap over some pins. You just pull to get it loose and push to get it back on. It's kind of awkward to do but there really isn't much to it.

I pulled mine a couple of weekends ago in an aborted attempt to install a Vortex intake. Going to try again this weekend.

A member recently posted his version of opening up more area on the lid. He did an absolutely beautiful job cutting open several rows of holes in the lid. It looked really  and I thought it was quite creative - a lot better than just increasing the existing slot size.

Hope he pipes in - he had nice pics of it and I think a template maybe?

Just reach way down in front with your hands between the hood opening and the lid and push inwards and they will pop off the gormets. Easy off, but hell to put back on.

If you lube the rubber with some silicone or grease it will slide on to the pins much easier. ;)

"roffless" is right. Push, pop, and you are out-of-there! Good luck Nick, and enjoy that car... :D
