Default Which one to buy?

My 99 is in need of one catalytic converter but will replace both of course, the code is (P0420),I hear from a couple of shop's in my area that the cheap one's will not last long $120 per side at one shop, can someone point me in the direction of something similar to what came on this car from the factory because i would like to stay eco groovy to pass emissions and not be an outlaw. Thanks

The people i purchased the car from took it to there local chevy dealer and thats what they were told, and i went to my local muffler shop they did a scan and he said the same, everything looks original on the car so i wouldn't doubt that it could use new 02 sensor's,car has 160,000 miles and runs great!

Check to rear O2 first. If it's good then just have a good high flow converter welded in.

I use AC Delco 02 sensors, didn't want to take a chance with the aftermarket ones. You can get the O2 checked with a Tech2 or an HP Tuner if you have access to one, but if you have to pay to have it checked it may be cheaper to just replace the one in question. Then clear the codes and see if that takes care of it. If the dealer actually tested to find the problem they may have found the rear O2 was working properly and told the previous owner the cat was bad.

Just swap the rear O2's, if the code goes to the other side, you know it's a sensor for sure.

A failed O2 sensor is far more common than a bad convertor.
