Unless the axle has been rebuilt by someone or replaced before no, the grease is not white. I would not recommend regular lithium grease in any case.
Clean all the areas you have seen and continue driving normally for a few days and check again, just to ensure you didn't run over something on the roadway that got slung all around by you tire/wheel. Even if you DO have a cut/tear/hole in one of your axle boots, they can sometimes be very hard to spot, depending on where it is. It doesn't take much as that axle spins up pretty good and the centrifugal force will "spin" the grease out.
Take your car out on the e/way for about a half hr. This will get the grease to a thinner state. Soon as you get home get under there w/correct lighting and spin your wheel slowly. Anywhere that looks remotly suspect, give it a sqeeze in that area. If it "milks out you know where it's coming from. Factory gease in the boots would be greenish, bluish to black looking. Hope this helps. Good luck.
Mine had a pin hole in it. Did'nt actually find it until the shaft was out. Replaced the whole shaft, purchased in advance from supporting vender, as per cajundude write-up. Seemed easier than replacing the boot itself. http://www.cajundude.com/outputshaftseal.htm
