Default Removing engine on C5

I wrecked my track car (insurance totalled it) and have bought another Vette to takes its place. I want to take the engine and trans out of the wrecked car and put in the new one since I have done engine mods and just replaced the clutch and slave. I think it would be better to swap the engine instead of pulling off heads/intake and either pulling the old cam or having to buy another one.

I've looked on the internet and have only seen where people pull the engine out of the bottom of the car.

Looking for suggestions from people that have pulled their engines.

It looks like you can drop the engine in the cradle which will include the steering and suspension - but leave the a/c compressor so I won't have to drain the refrigerant.

I pulled my engine from the top.
You have to disconnet the upper control arms, shocks and brakes. lower the cradle about 4-6". pull the hoses and rad.
the worst part was getting at the bellhousing bolts.
I had the manifold, exhaust disconnected and heads off. (heads are not necessary). I started a head/cam change and decided to rebuild the whole motor.
If I find it I will post the link.

I also left the hood on. you lift the motor and pull it over the fender.

If you can, take it out the bottom, if done correctly, you can leave the
steering rack in along with the radiator and fans and the AC compressor. I have a 2 post lift which makes it pretty easy to do.
I wouldn't even attempt to take it out the top without taking out the radiator, fans, unbolting the steering rack and removing the hood also.
I've done it twice pretty much by myself, but also removed the entire drive line with the engine. I just used 2 motorcycle jacks to support the front and rear cradles and lift the body and frame off the driveline and engine. Once that's done you have easy access to everything.
Here are a few pics:

That's actually a really cool pic! I'm looking to get my own lift also. Why did you go with the 2 post over the 4?

A 2 post lift is just about mandatory for doing this kind of work to a C5/C6 Vette or even a C4. I didn't even consider a 4 post when shopping for lifts. Thre isn't much difference in pricing between the two types and the 2 post is just way more useful for any kind of work on these cars.

Well you just made my decision for me. You have to bolt it to the floor right? Sounds like a dumb question, but I'm in the military and subject to having to move from time to time. Worst comes to worst I just bolt it anyway and fill the holes in when I move. Ha Ha!

It's bolted to the floor, the kit came with everything, including the anchors and bolts/nuts. Most rental places will have a rotary hammer with a variety of bit sizes, so that's not really a problem. When you move it you can just fill the holes with concrete patch. My lift is Eagle Global 9000# capacity assymetrical. Myself and 2 friends put it up and had it operating in 4 hours or so. Total cost with frieght from NC to CO and buying the necessary hydraulic fluid and the 230 volt wiring was a bit over $2100,,,,,,worth every penny to me.

Cool, I live in VA, right now so shipping may not be so bad. As long as I can pull it down and move it then that should work well. Good price too.

How many miles are on the replacement vette? if the miles are lower then the wrecked one I would swap the mods. G/L post pic's
