I have a completely stock 99. I have purchased a Halltech TRIC/MAG air intake and intend on installing it. My question is : Do I REALLY need an aftermarket exhaust system ? Most people say that the aftermarket systems are mosty for the sound and that you don't really get any performance edge from them. If this is true, then I will spend the $700-$800 on a modification that would make a difference. Should I buy the exhaust or spend the money on something better, say like a NX wet kit ?
I had a completely stock 98 then installed the PRTs, then Halltech Sidewinder. To me, I didnt feel any performance gains from the PRTs, but well worth the money in sound!! When you put on an aftermarket exhaust you wouldnt believe the difference, it sounds like you have a mean **** under the hood, and the exhaust tips look really cool!!
A suggestion would be to buy a used exhaust on the forum. You can usually get a good deal between $450-600. and IMO its well worth the money, and the install is a piece of cake.
Hey, I wanted to save my money for better mods, but I still wanted that beast sounding exhuast I got the A&A exhuast mod for $60 and had it installed for $30. And believe me, it sounds wicked at WOT. Really worth the money, install it with an x-pipe to get the burble out. If you are looking for a better sound but don't want to be poor you should go this way.
Some good suggestions here. To answer your question, no, an aftermarket exhaust (cat back system) won't get you any extra ponies. The only exhaust change that would get you some power would be long tube headers.

wallstAL I don't see what exhaust you have in your sig. Do you have the A&A?? I am really happy with it. Every cruise-in or whenever I drive around people come up to me and ask what kind of exhaust I am running. It sounds really nice.
