Default LOW OIL TEMP on dash display

I've been getting a low oil temp on the dash display when the engine is hot and at normal coolant temp. I 'm thinking it is the oil temp sensor/sender. Not much in service manual on the subject. Sensor located at the oil filter housing. Swap out with new and see what happens? No high oil temps.

I saw this back in January when tempatures were 5 - 10 degrees.

Any codes? An open in the sensor wiring will cause this problem as well.

Man, that's a new one to me also! I've never seen a "Low Oil Temp" message, even when combined with very cold weather and short trips.

I agree with lucky's thoughts about it. Keep us posted.

This is a very odd code to be thrown...get it checked out asap. Hopefully its something very small, best of luck!

This is the code of concern: 60-IPC B1543 H = oil temperature circuit open

Pages 8-658 to 8-660 in service manual explains diagnostics.

either problem in the oil temp sensor circuit or problem in the oil temp sensor

circuit =
sensor =
I have some homework to do, plus I cleared all codes(I only had H codes) and will drive for a day and see what comes back. Will update

Well, that's easy to check. You can measure the resistance of the sensor cold and hot to verify is working properly. The resistance should be high cold, and decrease as the engine warms. At the sensor connector....you should have 5 volts on pin B(dark green wire), and a ground at pin A(black wire). Make sure you check the resistance, not just continuity.

I'll probally drive until low temp appears then get it on jack stands and check resistance of sensor(low), voltage from A to B on harness(5v), voltage B to ground(5v) and continuity A to ground. That should cover it. I still hope its only the sensor.
On another note do I have to drain the oil to replace the sensor, I could not find anything on that.
Thanks for all the insight

The temp sensor is above the filter, so you'll be fine.
