Can anyone comment on installing a Z06 intake manifold on a LS1 motor. Is there a noticable HP gain, is it worth the money?? Thanks in advance for your comments!
I'm no expert but from what I've seen unless you're gong heads and cam or forced induction there is little to be gained. Just think about it, the '02 LS1 has 5 more HP than the '00 and below, and that is at the crank.....so it can't make that much difference until you start trying to huff alot more air......
I've read somewhere that one of the vendors dynoed one at a surprising 12 rwhp improvement on a stocker or mostly stocker. There are some who will say not to waist money on it until you do heads and cam etc. But for me, I want to do EVERY bolt on I can do and see if the car is fast enough for me before I go blowing the warranty I paid $1600 for.
I installed the '02 LS6 intake on mine and it made a HUGE SOTP difference. My SOTP meter is very weak too. I was VERY impressed and satisfied spending the money on it. Most gains are from 4-10 RWHP but I know mine was at least 10 or more, at least! I am a sworn believer now ;). I think mine is a freak combination. My C5 needed this LS6 intake in a bad way ;)
Some beleive that when GM fixed the whistle in the early LS6 manifolds that it actually improved performance. This could explain why some beleive the mod is insignificant and why some are now saying that it is making a decent improvment.
I would sure hope I get the "new" LS6 manifold that's going in next week. Although I'm getting H/C, I decided it was definetely a worthwhile investment.
I just installed one, however it was at the same time as the long tube headers, so I can't tell which did what. Increased HP by about 21 RWHP, and 18 RWTQ. I figured next year I'll go with either heads and cam or the ATI, so it makd sense to do the Intake Manifold.
