Default axel shaft problem

So I just got my car back from getting a ls7 clutch, master cylinder, and slave. On the way back I started hearing a loud clicking noise. Luckily one of the guys form teh shop was on his way home and say that I pulled over and he pulled over to help. He said the grease in my axle shaft looked like it was almost gone. I not trying to say that the shop intentionally messed something up but I seem to think that something might have gottan messed up when they took apart the drivetrain.
Is this axle shaft thing a common problem? Or do you think this could have been something that got messed up when they took apart the drivetrain. I have a 2000 M6 with about 55,000 miles.

I just realized I misspelled axle. sorry

It's very possible that the shop put a small tear or pin hole in the boot. It depends on how they pulled the shafts out of the diff. I'd definitely would go back to the shop and let them know you have an axle leak, and hopefully they would cover the repair. Surely if that boot was leaking when you first brought it in there, they would have noticed it when they first recieved your car when they pulled the rear wheels. Good luck.

I'm not sure how he could tell that the grease was almost gone, unless there was grease slung all over.

I just cut my cv boot two weeks ago. sounds like they cut it. should be a quick fix for those guys and I hope they step up and fix it. if it was cut before you brought it in, the grease would have been there and they would have noticed because they would have had to clean it before they continued with the job. also, a good shop should upsell you on that fix too. its good for business and not good to drive a car with a cut boot
good luck with the fix and no bill

Yea it was a cut cv boot. I brought it back in yesterday and they put in on the lift and checked it out. They said one of teh retainer clips for the brake line came off (I guess they didn't put it back on right) and cut the boot. So they replaces the whole thing for free. Thanks Horsepower Sales

That's good that they owned up to their mistake and took full responsibilities on part and labor. I really don't think their excuse for how the leak happened is fully truthfull. Glad your back on the road "leak free"!

I agree about the reason...maybe no one wanted to admit they made a foolish mistake (like I did:o) to cut the boot
